There’s a lot of excitement in the build-up to Christmas. And then it arrives, we have a great time, and then...it’s over. Or is it? In fact, there are a lot of ways you can have fun in the post-Christmas period. In many ways, it’s even more fun than in the build-up, or the big day itself, since all the pressure is off. In Edmonton, there are plenty of post-festive events that you and your family can enjoy. We take a look at a few activities and events below.
A day at the ice-hockey
Edmonton is pretty crazy about ice hockey if you didn’t know already. If you’re visiting in the post-Christmas period, then you’ll have an opportunity to see just how passionate local fans can be. On December 31, the Edmonton Oilers will take on the New York Rangers at Rogers Place. Get your tickets, and enjoy a day at the ice hockey!
Into a magical land
The New Year brings an awesome winter wonderland to Edmonton. The ice castles spectacle will take place at Hawrelak Park from January 1 until March 20. It’s like stepping into the Land of Narnia, with thousands upon thousands of icicles crafted into beautiful sculptures.
Into the outdoors
People usually only got into the outdoors during spring and summer, but there’s a lot of magic in enjoying the outdoors in the winter. The special Snowshoe and Stargaze event will take place at Elk Island National Park. You’ll learn about the constellations as you sit around a campfire. Perfect!
You can round off your post-Christmas trip by staying at the best hotel in Edmonton. At the Paradise Inn Edmonton International Airport, you’ll have spacious, affordable accommodation close to the city’s main attractions. You’ll also get to enjoy amenities that include a continental breakfast, fitness and business centre, and free wifi.
